Giles Somerville Managing Director giles@clvip.com Giles is the Managing Director and founder of Clearview Capital Partners. He spends the majority of his time marketing the firm's hedge fund clients to prospective investors. Additionally, he is primarily responsible for sourcing and researching new managers. After completing due diligence, Giles works closely with the managers to develop a tight investment story that highlights the manager's experience and edge, and which answers the questions that are the focus of institutional investors. Giles was the Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Clearview Investment Partners a boutique investment advisory firm. From 2003-2005 highlighted deals included: VC financing of Olive Software, sale of Airdesk to Numerex (nmrx), strategic advisory work for late-stage financing for Limelight Networks (LLNW). Giles was the Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Milestone Equity Partners. From 2000-2003 Milestone built a portfolio of over 40 early stage companies, primarily in the technology space. The companies included: Plaxo, Secure Software, Trust Digital, Trufina and Limelight Networks amongst others. To date using private sales & IPO prices Milestone has returned over 3x invested capital making it one of the best performing incubator-Venture Capital companies during that time frame. Giles started his career on Wall Street with Bear Stearns. He worked in money management/investing for over eleven years, rising to the role of Vice President of Investing with Moors & Cabot and then with First Union Securities. Over this time he developed very strong working relationships within the Institutional investment world. Giles has done extensive television appearances, hosted his own national investment radio show and been a frequent speaker at corporate events and seminars. He has served on multiple corporate and charitable boards including Secure Software and the Washington Scholarship Fund (the largest private sector funded school voucher program). Mr. Somerville attended Georgetown University. Bobby Carnathan Director - Europe bobby@clvip.com Bobby is a Director at Clearview where his primary focus is raising assets from European Fund of Funds, Family Offices, Foundations & Endowments and other European Institutions. His responsibilities also include sourcing and meeting & screening potential new Off-shore and European based managers. Mr. Carnathan is based in Clearview's London office. Bobby started in the financial markets, working with Giles, in 1991 on the FX option floor on the in Philadelphia Stock Exchange. Through his extensive experience in both risk and distribution of derivative products in New York, London and San Francisco Bobby has built extensive Institutional contacts through out Europe. His product experience covers FX, credit and equity. Bobby has been based in London for most of the last fourteen years. Mr. Carnathan is a graduate of Georgetown University in Washington D.C. Fadi E. Hallak Director - Middle East fadi@clvip.com Fadi is a Director at Clearview where his primary focus is raising assets from Middle Eastern Fund of Funds, Family Offices and other Middle Eastern Institutions. His responsibilities also include sourcing and meeting & screening potential new Off-shore based managers. Fadi spends extensive time in the Middle East. Fadi began his career at Investcorp in London and New York where he supported the company's investment in Gucci and analyzed potential acquisitions. Fadi is of Lebanese origin and grew up in Bahrain. As a result, he is intimately familiar with the cultures of the GCC and has close friendships and contacts at the highest level within the local business community and governments. Previously, he was a Relationship Manager at Chase Manhattan Bank in London, where he was responsible for investment banking marketing in the Arabian Gulf and the Levant. Mr. Hallak has a Business Administration degree from American University, Washington, DC. He is fluent in both English and Arabic and speaks the different dialects of the Gulf states and French. Allan Kaplan Director allan@clvip.com Allan is a Director at Clearview where his primary responsibility is raising assets for clients from large institutional investors. Allan is based in Clearview's Scottsdale office. Allan Kaplan has extensive experience building and investing in companies focused on next-generation data communications, Internet infrastructure, services, and software. As a co-founder of three successful Internet Infrastructure companies and as a partner in a private venture fund, he has a proven track record in business development, Institutional Funding, and mergers and acquisitions. Allan has very strong contacts in the US institutional investment community. Mr. Kaplan attended Arizona State University. Allan was a founder of Primenet Services for the Internet, Inc., which later merged with and changed its name to GlobalCenter, Inc, whose investors included Sequoia Capital, Hummer Winblad, and Softbank Capital, and Global Village. He served GlobalCenter as Senior Vice President of Operations and served on its Board of Directors along with Mike Moritz of Sequoia Capital and John Hummer of Hummer Winbad. GlobalCenter successfully managed the acquisition and integration of two additional companies: Voyager Networks and ISI Systems to later become a leader in web hosting. In 1998, GlobalCenter was purchased by Frontier Communications (NYSE: FRO) for $180 million and Allan was named Senior Vice President of Connectivity Services. Global Center was later sold to Exodus Communication for over $6 Billion dollars. Shortly after the sale of GlobalCenter, Allan co-founded Cocoon Capital, a private incubator and venture fund, which successfully launched:
Craig Humphreys Director - Asia / China craig@clvip.com Craig is a Director at Clearview where his primary focus is raising assets from Asian Fund of Funds, Family Offices and other Asian Institutions. His responsibilities also include sourcing and meeting & screening Asian based Hedge Fund Managers. Craig spends extensive time in the China and Asia. Craig has done extensive work assessing investment opportunities for foreign firms in China as well as advising Chinese firms working with American technology firms. He assisted in fund-raising for Chinese startup companies as well as arranging joint ventures between Chinese and US companies. Craig has reasonable fluency in Mandarin Chinese from two years spent in country. Craig has significant contacts through out the Chinese and Asian investment community. Craig has his Bachelors of Science, Electrical Engineering 1980 with Highest Honors from the University of California, Davis.
